Why Manage Disasters

While one cannot prevent natural disasters, with proper foresight and planning, their impacts can be controlled to a great extent and needless loss of life prevented. Disasters disrupt progress and destroy the hard earned fruits of painstaking developmental efforts. As it is invariably the economically and socially weakest sections of the population, elderly persons, women, infants and children rendered homeless after a disaster, who are the worst affected, organised efforts to mitigate the effects of a calamity and post occurrence relief work carried out in a coordinated manner, will bring great succour to the people.
